The Air Max Plus debuted in 1998, was designed by Sean McDowell and has been known as the TN ever since, after the Tuned Air cushioning in its sole. This pair is based on the Gomu Gomu no Mi, the Devil Fruit that gives lead character Monkey D. Luffy his rubber body. Visible Tuned Air units in the forefoot and heel deliver the firm, springy ride the model is known for.

The mesh upper comes in Space Purple, the colour of the Gomu Gomu fruit. The familiar TPU cage of the Air Max Plus makes way for TPU panels carrying the swirling pattern of the Devil Fruit, and that pattern continues across the mudguard and midsole. Green accents in Atomic Green and Altitude Green appear on the tongue, lining, laces and inside the Air units. The tongue carries Nike's own take on the Jolly Roger, the insoles are printed with One Piece artwork and the pair comes in a special co-branded Nike and One Piece box.
