Rhude
Rhude is a fashion label from Los Angeles, founded by Rhuigi Villaseñor. The label combines streetwear with the finishing and materials of luxury fashion, and draws its inspiration from American culture, motorsport and vintage clothing. Rhude T-shirts, shorts and hoodies are therefore easy to spot thanks to their graphic prints with a retro feel.
The history of Rhude
Rhuigi Villaseñor was born in the Philippines and moved to the United States as a child. He had no formal fashion training and largely taught himself the craft. The first piece he made was a T-shirt with a bandana print. When Kendrick Lamar wore that shirt, the label suddenly got a lot of attention.
From that one shirt, Rhude grew into a full brand with jackets, trousers, shirts and accessories. In 2022 Villaseñor also became creative director of the Swiss fashion house Bally, a sign of how seriously his work was being taken in the fashion world.
What Rhude is known for
Rhude is known for a mix of luxury and nostalgia. Many designs refer to old car races, vintage advertising and the Los Angeles lifestyle, made in good fabrics with a neat finish. Logos and prints are often large, but the cuts stay refined.
The brand has worked with Puma, among others, releasing a collection of sneakers and clothing with them in 2019. A collaboration with the Formula 1 team McLaren appeared as well, which suits the label’s love of motorsport.
Well-known Rhude pieces
- Bandana T-shirt: the shirt where it all began, with a print in the style of a paisley bandana.
- Graphic T-shirts: featuring motorsport motifs, retro logos and references to American culture.
- Shorts: sweat shorts and nylon shorts with bold prints or stripes.
- Hoodies and jackets: often with large logos and a vintage-style look.
Rhude is often combined with other labels from Los Angeles and American streetwear, such as Gallery Dept., Fear of God Essentials and Denim Tears. Where Essentials mainly makes basics, Rhude puts more weight on eye-catching graphic details.
What is the difference between Rhude and other streetwear labels?
Many streetwear labels lean on skate or hip-hop culture. Rhude also looks to the world of luxury: old sports cars, race circuits and classic American brands. You can see those influences in the prints, but also in details such as buttons, stitching and the choice of heavier fabrics. The result is clothing that wears casually but looks more polished than an ordinary logo tee.
How does Rhude clothing fit?
There is no fixed deviation that applies to every Rhude item. The fit differs per garment: a T-shirt can sit differently from a hoodie or jacket from the same collection. If you are not sure which size you need, compare the measurements with a similar piece you already own. If you deliberately want a roomier look, you can consider going one size up. With jackets and hoodies, also check the sleeve length and shoulder width, as that is often where the differences lie.
