Another month, another Air Jordan 1 . But, when you feel like your love of a certain model is fading, Air Jordan pulls you in with another stunning silhouette. We introduce you to the Air Jordan 1 Retro High UNC Toe. This takes collegiate colors originally saved for other basketball models – like the Nike Dunk – and applies them to Michael Jordan’s most recognizable silhouette. Especially after the movie Air immortalized the story of this sneaker’s creation earlier this year, this release is set to be nothing short of brilliant.
The sneaker
The sneaker comes in a white leather base, with black detailing on the paneling across the sneaker. University blue covers the toe panel and is present around the heel, featuring the same color blocking as the famous Jordan 1 Retro High Black Toe. University blue is also present on the tongue tag whilst the wings logo on the collar of the sneaker is dressed in black. The upper is paired with a white midsole and a university blue outsole.

The Significance of UNC to Jordan
The UNC colorway, inspired by the colors of the University of North Carolina’s school colors, is a classic choice for the Jordan brand these days. Particularly since this was the college Michael Jordan attended for 3 years between 1981 and 1984. What’s interesting is that back then Jordan would actually wear Adidas, as this was before his extremely lucrative deal with Nike was signed before his first season. These days, however, the University of North Carolina is officially sponsored by Jordan Brand. Meaning that current Tar Heel stars rock the latest Jordan silhouettes, and Jordan has access to officially licensed UNC colorways. Such as this latest Air Jordan 1.

Our thoughts
This is by no means the first time University Blue has appeared on an Air Jordan 1 in reference to Jordan’s Alma Mater. But often these renditions have been on a low-cut version or with other themes mixed in. This is therefore one of the cleanest and most straightforward university editions of the Air Jordan 1 – reminiscent of the UNC versions of other Jordans, like the Air Jordan 3, that have been released since Jordan started sponsoring the University.
It takes a lot to get extremely excited about a Jordan 1 release in 2023. Not because we are any less in love with the sneakers but they release so frequently that, if a colorway isn’t perfect, you know you can hold on until their next release. This UNC pair, however, is the kind of colorway you wait for. With its traditional color blocking and light blue UNC highlights complementing the silhouette so perfectly, it’s hard not to be a fan of this sneaker.

When will the shoe release?
Although a release date is yet to be officially confirmed, official photos of the sneaker have been released, meaning the sneaker release is only shortly around the corner. That said, you can most likely expect the Jordan 1 Retro High UNC Toes to be released on July 22nd at the height of the summer. After which, it will become available to buy and sell here on WOOVIN.
