Air Jordan 13
The Air Jordan 13 from 1997 revolves around one image: Michael Jordan as a panther on the basketball court. Designer Tinker Hatfield gave the shoe a glinting ‘cat’s eye’ on the ankle and a sole that resembles the underside of a paw. It is a mid-height model from Air Jordan that looks sporty without wearing heavy.
The history of the Air Jordan 13
For the 13, Hatfield looked at the way a black panther moves: smooth, fast and unexpected. That matched ‘Black Cat’, one of Jordan’s nicknames. He wore the shoe in the 1997-98 season, his last with the Chicago Bulls, and won his sixth title at the end of it. The original colours include ‘Bred’, ‘Chicago’, ‘He Got Game’ and ‘Flint’.
That third name comes from Spike Lee’s 1998 film ‘He Got Game’, in which basketball player Ray Allen wore the white version with black and red. That gave the 13 its own place in sneaker history beyond the NBA as well.
Design and technology
The hologram on the outside of the ankle looks, depending on how the light hits it, like an eye staring back at you. The outsole consists of separate rubber pods, just like a cat’s paw pads, which makes the shoe flexible. Zoom Air sits under both the heel and the forefoot. The upper combines leather with suede or nubuck panels, often with a fine dotted texture.
Popular Air Jordan 13 colorways
These versions of the Jordan 13 are the most popular on WOOVIN at the moment:
- Jordan 13 Retro ‘Flint’ (2026) – navy with light blue, grey and white.
- Jordan 13 Retro ‘Dune Red’ – warm reddish brown with soft pink and white.
- Jordan 13 Retro ‘Del Sol’ – white with red, sunny yellow and black.
- Jordan 13 Retro ‘Blue Grey’ – white with blue grey, ochre yellow and black.
Air Jordan 13 vs. Air Jordan 12: which is more comfortable?
The Air Jordan 12 is taller, stiffer and made entirely of thick leather, with Zoom cushioning from heel to toe. The 13 is lower and lighter, and thanks to the segmented sole it flexes better with every step. If you walk a lot, the 13 usually feels more supple; the 12 gives more structure and keeps its shape longer.
How does the Air Jordan 13 fit?
Most retailers and wearers agree that the Air Jordan 13 fits true to size. The shoe closes quite snugly around the midfoot, which gives narrow and regular feet a pleasant hold. With wide feet it can pinch there, and then half a size up is the better choice.
Buy the Air Jordan 13 at WOOVIN
WOOVIN has the Jordan 13 in original colours such as Flint and in newer versions like Dune Red and Del Sol. When choosing, look at the amount of suede: light suede panels look great but get dirty faster than leather. That is why people who also wear the shoe in autumn often go for a darker version. Also worth a look from the same years is the Air Jordan 11 with its patent leather.
