Book 1

The Nike Book 1 is the first signature shoe of Devin Booker, the shooting guard of the Phoenix Suns. It is a basketball shoe that looks like a 1970s classic, with canvas, suede and a calm shape. That means you wear it on the street just as easily as on the court, which makes it stand out in the basketball range of Nike.

The history of the Nike Book 1

Booker joined the Phoenix Suns in 2015 via the University of Kentucky. In 2017 he scored 70 points in a single game against the Boston Celtics, and he later won Olympic gold with Team USA. In spring 2024 Nike released his first own model, starting in February with the ‘Mirage’ colorway.

Booker gave the designers classics such as the Air Force 1, the Nike Blazer and the Air Jordan 1 as a starting point. His restored 1972 Chevrolet Blazer also played a part: an old car with a modern engine, just like the Book 1 has a classic exterior with new technology inside. The shoe now has a successor, the Book 2, which falls under the same model page on WOOVIN.

Design and technology

The upper combines canvas and twill, materials known from workwear, with suede and leather reinforcements. The midsole contains Cushlon 2.0 foam with a firm rim for stability, and there is a Zoom Air unit under the heel. The heel tab is shaped like the spine of a book, with a number that refers to a chapter in Booker’s story.

Nike Book 1 or Air Force 1: which suits you?

The Air Force 1 is a leather lifestyle classic with a thick sole, mainly meant for everyday wear. The Book 1 has a retro look but is a true performance shoe with Zoom Air and a stable sole, one you can also play a game in. It uses lighter materials and sits closer to the foot. If you want one shoe for the court and the city, the Book 1 is the more interesting choice.

How does the Nike Book 1 fit?

Most retailers and reviewers call the Book 1 true to size, so your usual Nike size is the starting point. The shoe wraps the foot snugly and the toe box is on the narrow side; the upper needs a few wears to soften. If you have wide feet, or do not like a close fit, choose half a size up.
