Ja
The Nike Ja is the signature line of Ja Morant, the explosive point guard of the Memphis Grizzlies. Since 2023 Nike has released a new Ja every year: a low, light basketball shoe that works just as well on the court as on the street. The Ja 3 in particular stands out with bright colours and playful themes.
Ja Morant and his own shoe
Ja Morant was taken second overall in the 2019 NBA draft and joined the Memphis Grizzlies. After his first season he was named Rookie of the Year. He is known for his speed, his leaping ability and his spectacular dunks over much taller defenders. In 2023 he got his first own shoe at Nike, the Ja 1.
The Ja 2 followed in 2024 and the Ja 3 in 2025. Each version is made for a small, quick player who changes direction often and pushes off hard. The colorways often have their own name and theme, from soft drinks to music.
Design and technology
The Ja models are low basketball shoes with a snug, close-fitting upper that keeps your foot in place during quick movements. The sole sits fairly close to the ground so you can feel the court, and the rubber outsole gives grip for sudden stops and turns. Off the court, it is mainly the colour that stands out: the line often comes in combinations you rarely see on other basketball shoes.
The low cut also makes the Ja suitable as an everyday sneaker. Worn with joggers or wide jeans, it fits the sporty look that basketball shoes have on the street today.
Popular Nike Ja colorways
These are currently the most sought-after Ja colorways on WOOVIN:
- Ja 2 ‘Induction’: taupe grey with light blue accents.
- Ja 3 ‘Kool-Aid’: a loud mix of lemon yellow, blue, green and pink.
- Ja 3 ‘Light Show’: white with light green, pink and blue.
- Ja 3 ‘Sound Check’: white and black with a touch of cream.
- Ja 3 ‘Pink Foam’: light pink with hot pink, reddish-brown and yellow details.
What is the difference between the Nike Ja, the LeBron and the Kobe?
All three are Nike signature lines, but they are made for very different players. The Nike LeBron is built for a heavy, powerful player and therefore has more cushioning and support. The Nike Kobe is low and all about precision and footwork. The Ja is low too, but has its own, more playful look. If you want a calmer low alternative, take a look at the Nike Book 1 by Devin Booker, which has a more classic look.
How does the Nike Ja fit?
The Nike Ja fits true to size in length, but it is narrow and snug around the foot; that is deliberate, for lockdown on the court. If you have narrow or average feet and play basketball in it, stick with your usual Nike size. If you have wide feet, or mainly wear the Ja as an everyday sneaker, go half a size up.
