Tasman
The UGG Tasman is a suede slipper with a wool lining, recognisable by the woven trim around the opening. It sits somewhere between a house slipper and a shoe: soft enough for the sofa, with a sole that can also handle the street. That has made the Tasman one of the most popular models from UGG, especially in autumn and winter.
The history of the UGG Tasman
UGG made its name with the sheepskin Classic boot. The Tasman came later as a low version for anyone who wants that warm feeling without a shaft. For a long time it was a quiet model in the range, until the slipper became popular again in recent years and was increasingly worn on the street rather than only at home.
Design and materials
The upper is made of suede, the inside of soft wool that keeps your foot warm and moulds to it over time. The best-known detail is the Tasman braid: a woven, colourful band around the opening that makes the model instantly recognisable. Underneath sits a light, flexible sole with tread, so you can wear it not just indoors but outside too.
Alongside the classic Tasman, variants with a different upper appear, such as the Maxi Curly with curly wool on the outside. Want more height? Then the UGG Tazz is the version on a platform sole.
Popular UGG Tasman colorways
The Tasman Chestnut is the classic, in the warm cognac brown that UGG also uses on the Classic boot. The Caspian Burnt Cedar has a reddish-brown tone, and Mustard Seed is ochre yellow. If you want something understated, the Tasman Black is the most low-key option.
What is the difference between the UGG Tasman and the Tazz?
Both models share the same suede upper, the wool lining and the woven braid. The difference is in the sole: the Tasman sits on a fairly flat sole, the Tazz on a thick platform sole. As a result the Tasman wears more understated and feels more like a slipper, while the Tazz gives you extra height and a bolder silhouette. Looking for a real sneaker with the same warm lining? Take a look at the UGG Lowmel.
How does the UGG Tasman fit?
The UGG Tasman broadly fits true to size, so you can stick with your usual size. The model is only available in whole sizes. If you are between sizes and wear it barefoot, choose the smaller size, because the wool lining gives a little over time. If you have wide feet or like to wear it with thick socks, go for the larger size.
