Yeezy 380
The Yeezy Boost 380 is a low Yeezy sneaker with a knitted upper in an irregular pattern and a translucent sole with Boost cushioning. It looks rougher and rounder than the better-known 350 V2, but is just as easy to wear. Many colours are named after minerals, such as Calcite, Pyrite and Covellite.
The history of the Yeezy Boost 380
Before the shoe came out, images of it surfaced under the name Yeezy Boost 350 V3. adidas eventually released it in late 2019 as the Yeezy Boost 380, in the colour ‘Alien’. In 2020 came ‘Pepper’, among others, and the first glow-in-the-dark version, ‘Calcite Glow’.
Until the partnership between adidas and Kanye West ended in 2022, many more colours appeared, often in earthy and grey tones. Some of them also got a reflective or glowing variant.
Design and technology
The upper is Primeknit, with a mottled pattern that turns out slightly different on every colour. On many pairs a thin stripe runs across the side. Below it sits a full-length Boost midsole, enclosed by a translucent rubber sole with a striking texture, so you can just about see the foam.
The shape is a little fuller than that of the 350 V2, with a rounder toe and a sturdier heel. That makes the 380 look more robust without it feeling heavy.
Popular Yeezy Boost 380 colorways
- Yeezy Boost 380 ‘Calcite Glow’: cream white with blue accents, and an upper that glows green-yellow in the dark.
- Yeezy Boost 380 ‘Onyx’: all black.
- Yeezy Boost 380 ‘Alien Blue’: light white and grey tones with a coloured stripe across the side.
- Yeezy Boost 380 ‘Pepper’: knit in washed-out brown tones on a black-painted Boost sole.
- Yeezy Boost 380 ‘Pyrite’: grey and beige in a camo-like pattern, with a milky white sole.
What is the difference between the Yeezy 380 and the Yeezy 350?
Both are low sneakers with Primeknit and Boost, but they look different. The Yeezy Boost 350 is slimmer and smoother, with a tightly knitted upper. The 380 has a coarser pattern, a fuller shape and a sole with more texture. If you want even more volume, look at the Yeezy 700; for a knitted Yeezy with a sole all of its own, there is the Yeezy 450.
How does the Yeezy Boost 380 fit?
The Yeezy Boost 380 sits fairly close around the foot, especially at the toes. That is why many wearers go half a size up. If you like a snug, sock-like fit and have narrow feet, you can stick with your own size.
