Mihara Yasuhiro studied at Tama Art University in Tokyo, where he made his first shoes. In 1997 he launched a footwear label under his own name, soon followed by clothing and his own store in Tokyo. From the start, shoes remained the core of his work.
Recognition outside Japan came through a long-running collaboration with Puma, for which he reinterpreted well-known Puma models from 2000 onwards. The signature detail is the OG Sole, also called the Original Sole. This rubber sole undulates at the edges, is deliberately not quite symmetrical and looks as if someone sculpted it by hand. As a result, a simple canvas sneaker suddenly resembles an object that has half melted away.
On top there is usually a calm canvas upper with contrast stitching and textured rubber foxing. Colours tend to stay close to the basics: black, white, natural and the occasional bold shade such as red.
