AE

The adidas AE is the signature line of NBA player Anthony Edwards, made up of the AE 1, the AE 1 Low and the AE 2. These are basketball shoes with a bold, muscular design that are also widely worn off the court. On WOOVIN the AE 1 Low is especially popular, in bright colours and eye-catching themed editions.

The history of the adidas AE

Anthony Edwards was picked first in the 2020 NBA draft, by the Minnesota Timberwolves. In September 2023 adidas announced that he would get his own signature shoe, and in December of that year the AE 1 hit the shelves. It was the first shoe designed entirely around Edwards and his style of play.

During the 2024 playoffs Edwards played in the AE 1 Low for the first time, and it was released in the summer of that year. The AE 2 followed in 2025. In a short time the AE grew into a complete line within adidas Basketball.

Design and technology

The most recognisable part of the AE 1 is the plastic structure across the side of the shoe. That TPU layer gives support during quick lateral movements and immediately defines its tough look. Underneath is a sole with a herringbone pattern for grip on the court.

The original AE 1 has a higher, sock-like collar that closes snugly around the ankle. The AE 1 Low uses the same idea but is cut lower, which makes it easier to pair with regular trousers or shorts. The AE 2 is the successor, with a new design and its own colours.

Popular adidas AE colorways

The AE 1 Low often appears in themed editions with their own colour story. These pairs are getting the most views on WOOVIN right now:

What is the difference between the AE 1 and the AE 1 Low?

The biggest difference is around the ankle. The AE 1 has a higher, close-fitting collar, while the Low stops below the ankle and feels less restricted. On court players often choose by feel; on the street the Low is the easiest pick. Curious about other signature lines? How does the adidas AE fit?

According to most reviews, the AE 1 and AE 1 Low fit true to size, but the fit is on the narrow side. With regular or narrow feet you can stick to your usual adidas size. For wide feet, half a size up is the usual advice. With a larger size, do make sure the heel stays in place, for example by lacing the shoe firmly.

On WOOVIN you will find the AE 1 Low in many themed editions, as well as the AE 2. If you actually play basketball in them, pay most attention to grip and the fit around the heel. If you mainly wear them on the street, colour decides: the metallic versions are calmer, the bright editions draw more attention.
