Air Jordan 7
The Air Jordan 7 is the 1992 Jordan in which Michael Jordan won his second NBA title, in the year he took Olympic gold with the Dream Team in Barcelona. Designer Tinker Hatfield left out two things that had been a given until then: visible Air and Nike branding on the outside. What remained is a colourful, graphic shoe within Air Jordan that you still recognise instantly.
The history of the Air Jordan 7
After the car-inspired Air Jordan 6, Hatfield went in a different direction for the 7. African art, with its bold shapes and colour combinations, inspired the patterns on the tongue and sole. In June 1992 the Chicago Bulls beat the Portland Trail Blazers in the Finals, with Jordan in the 7.
That summer he played with the Dream Team at the Olympic Games in Barcelona. Olympic versions of the 7 refer to that period, and the ‘Miro’ colorway is a tribute to Joan Miró, the artist from Barcelona.
Design and technology
The 7 borrows its inside from the Nike Air Huarache: a neoprene inner bootie that wraps the foot. The Air cushioning is hidden in the sole, without a window. The upper is usually leather or nubuck, with a jagged midsole and a multicoloured, geometric pattern on the tongue and outsole. That makes the 7 look more playful than the Jordans that came before it.
Popular Air Jordan 7 colorways
These Jordan 7s are at the top on WOOVIN right now:
- Jordan 7 Retro ‘Miro’ (2026): white with metallic gold, red and royal blue, inspired by Miró’s sculpture ‘Dona i Ocell’ in Barcelona.
- Jordan 7 Retro ‘Flint’: white leather with Flint Grey nubuck and purple details.
- Jordan 7 Retro Bephie’s Beauty Supply (W): sand tones with orange and peach, from the collaboration with the Los Angeles label Bephie’s Beauty Supply.
- Jordan 7 Retro ‘White Infrared’: white with black and bright red infrared accents.
What is the difference between the Air Jordan 7 and the Air Jordan 6?
The 6 has visible Air in the heel, a hard heel counter and a loop at the back that looks like a spoiler. The 7 drops the Air window and wraps the foot in a stretchy bootie, so it feels more like a sock on the inside. The colours and patterns are also more exuberant. If you are looking for a Jordan from the years that followed, the Air Jordan 9 is a logical next step.
How does the Air Jordan 7 fit?
Retailers and wearers generally call the Air Jordan 7 true to size, so you can stick with your normal Nike size. The neoprene bootie feels snug around the ankle and midfoot when new and gives a firm hold on the foot. Opinions on volume differ: some people with narrow feet find it roomy, while wide feet can feel pressure on the midfoot. If you have a wide foot or a high instep, half a size up is the safe choice.
