Vomero
The Nike Vomero is a cushioned running shoe that found a second life as a lifestyle sneaker. The Zoom Vomero 5 in particular, with its layered upper and silver details, is one of the best-known retro runners of the moment. It combines all-day comfort with a technical look and is worn a lot by women.
The history of the Nike Vomero
Nike’s Vomero line started out as a running shoe for runners who mainly wanted plenty of cushioning. The fifth version came out around 2010 and was simply a road performance shoe at the time. Designer Samuel Ross gave the model a new twist in 2018 with his label A-COLD-WALL*, after which Nike brought the Vomero 5 back as a lifestyle model. Since then it has appeared in a long run of colours.
Design and technology
The Vomero 5 has a breathable mesh upper topped with synthetic overlays and plastic support pieces, which together form a cage-like structure. The sole houses Zoom Air, Nike’s responsive cushioning, in a thick midsole with a pronounced heel section. That makes the shoe feel soft when you stand and walk for long periods. Alongside the Vomero 5 you will also find the newer Vomero Plus, a modern running shoe with a taller foam sole.
Popular Nike Vomero colorways
On WOOVIN, demand centres on the Vomero 5, in these versions:
- Zoom Vomero 5 ‘Photon Dust Metallic Silver’ (W): light grey with chrome and sail, the colour that really got the model’s comeback going.
- Zoom Vomero 5 ‘Triple White’ (W): almost entirely white, with small black accents.
- Zoom Vomero 5 ‘Chrome Toe’ (W): white with metallic silver details on the toe.
- Zoom Vomero 5 ‘Photon Dust Pink Foam’ (W): silver and platinum with soft pink accents.
- Vomero 5 ‘Supersonic’: white and sail with black lines, a calm version for men and women.
What is the difference between the Vomero 5 and the P-6000?
Both models take their inspiration from 2000s running shoes. The Nike P-6000 is simpler in construction and has no Zoom Air, while the Vomero 5 has more layers, more plastic and softer cushioning. If you want the same style from another brand, the ASICS GEL-1130 is often where people end up.
How does the Nike Vomero 5 fit?
The Nike Vomero 5 generally fits true to size, so you can choose your usual Nike size. The front of the shoe is a little narrow, though, and the plastic overlays do not give much. With wide feet you are often better off with half a size up on the Vomero 5. For models with (W) you follow Nike’s women’s size chart; in EU sizes you order your own size.
