Yeezy

Yeezy is the sneaker line that adidas released with Kanye West from 2015 to 2022. Models such as the Yeezy Boost 350 V2, the Yeezy 700 and the Yeezy Slide changed how many people looked at sneakers: fewer logos, muted earth tones and unusual shapes. Even now the partnership is over, they remain sought-after models.

The history of Yeezy

Before his time at adidas, Kanye West worked with Nike, which led to the Air Yeezy in 2009 and the Air Yeezy 2 in 2012. In late 2013 it was announced that he was moving to adidas. The first result was the Yeezy Boost 750 in February 2015, followed a few months later by the Yeezy Boost 350.

In the years that followed, the line grew into a complete collection, with running shoes, chunky sneakers, slides and foam shoes. In October 2022 adidas ended the partnership. adidas later released the remaining stock in phases; no new adidas Yeezy designs are being made.

What Yeezy is known for

You recognise Yeezy models by their minimalist look and colour names such as ‘Bone’, ‘Onyx’ and ‘Salt’. For comfort, adidas often used Boost, the springy foam sole also found in running shoes. Other models, such as the Slide and the Foam RNNR, are moulded from a single piece of EVA foam and have no separate parts at all. Most models are unisex and came out in a single size run for women and men, often in kids’ sizes too.

Because many releases sold out quickly, Yeezys also became popular on the resale market.

• The Yeezy Boost 350 is the best-known model: a low sneaker with a knitted Primeknit upper and Boost sole, especially in the V2 version.
• The Yeezy 700 is a chunky sneaker with a layered upper, followed by a V2 and V3.
• The Yeezy 500 has a thick, wavy sole with adiPRENE+ cushioning and an upper of suede, mesh and leather.
• The Yeezy Slide is a moulded foam slide with a ribbed sole.
• The Yeezy Foam RNNR is a foam slip-on with large openings on the sides.

How do Yeezys fit?

The fit differs per model, so always check the specific pair. The Yeezy Slide and the Foam RNNR run small. Choose one size up if in doubt. Both models only come in whole sizes, so if you are between two sizes, go up.
