Crocs
Crocs is an American brand from Boulder, Colorado, best known for the Classic Clog: a lightweight foam clog with ventilation holes and a heel strap. Once meant for boating, it is now a shoe you see everywhere, from the garden to the runway. More and more people buy Crocs for the collaborations with films, brands and designers.
The history of Crocs
Crocs started in 2002, when three friends from Colorado came across a foam clog and turned it into a boat shoe. They presented the first model at a boat show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The shoe floated, gave grip on a wet deck and dried quickly, and that caught on.
After that Crocs grew fast. In 2006 the brand bought Jibbitz, the small company that made the well-known charms for the holes. The clog became popular with people who stand all day, such as nurses and chefs. For a long time Crocs was mainly seen as an ugly shoe, until the fashion house Balenciaga showed its own Crocs version on the runway in 2017 and the collaborations started to follow one another.
What is Crocs known for?
The basis of almost every pair of Crocs is Croslite, a proprietary foam material that is light, soft and water-resistant. The footbed has small nubs, the upper has ventilation holes, and you flip the heel strap forward when you wear the shoe as a slipper. Cleaning them takes nothing more than water and soap.
The collaborations are at least as famous. Think of the Lightning McQueen clog from the Cars films, with lights in the side, and the LEGO Brick Clog, which looks like a giant building brick. Designer Salehe Bembury created the Pollex Clog, with a shape derived from a fingerprint. With Jibbitz you can also make any clog your own.
Popular Crocs models
- Crocs Classic Clog: the original, in dozens of colours and the base for most collaborations. On WOOVIN the Lightning McQueen version tops the list, alongside editions from Star Wars, Toy Story and Disney.
- Crocs Pollex Clog: Salehe Bembury’s design, with a thick, ribbed sole and a bold silhouette. On WOOVIN you will find the ‘Tide’ and ‘Kuwata’ colorways, among others, as well as the Pollex Slide.
- Crocs Brick Clog and Crocband Clog: the LEGO clog in bright red and the Crocband with a sporty stripe along the sole, which also comes in a Cars edition.
Looking for another comfortable slip-on? Also take a look at the cork-footbed sandals from Birkenstock, the lined slippers from UGG or the Yeezy Foam RNNR, which, like a Crocs clog, is moulded from foam in a single piece.
How do Crocs fit?
The Classic Clog has a roomy fit with plenty of space around your toes. It only comes in whole sizes, and EU sizes are often paired, such as 42–43. If you are between two sizes, choose the smaller one if you want a secure fit and the larger one if you have wide feet or wear the clog with thick socks. Other models, such as the Pollex Clog, have their own shape; check the size chart of the product for those.
