The On Cloudmonster is a running shoe with a strikingly high sole full of large, hollow clouds. It is built for plenty of cushioning and a springy toe-off, which makes it one of the most recognisable models from On. Besides runners, many people wear it as a comfortable everyday sneaker.

The history of the On Cloudmonster

On released the Cloudmonster in 2022, with the largest CloudTec elements the brand had made up to then. Where earlier models mainly felt light and direct, On went for maximum cushioning here. Later came the Cloudmonster Hyper, a faster training shoe with a different foam, followed by the Cloudmonster 2 and Cloudmonster 3, with the 3 getting an extra layer of clouds.

Design and technology

The core of the Cloudmonster is the Helion foam midsole with extra-large clouds, which compress on landing and then spring back. In between sits a Speedboard that stabilises the shoe and rolls you forward. The upper is made of engineered mesh, which ventilates and holds your foot securely.

Thanks to the rounded sole you roll smoothly from heel to toe. That makes the shoe suited to long, easy runs and to anyone who is on their feet all day.

Versions of the On Cloudmonster

The regular Cloudmonster is the all-rounder for daily training and long runs. The Cloudmonster Hyper has an even higher stack and a faster foam, for tempo sessions. With the Cloudmonster 3, On updated the upper and tongue for a better fit. On also made the Cloudmonster 3 Mule together with FKA twigs, a slip-on without a heel counter.

What is the difference between the On Cloudmonster and the Cloud 6?

The Cloudmonster has a thicker, softer sole and is made for racking up miles. The Cloud 6 sits lower, is lighter and feels more direct, which makes it handier as an everyday sneaker or for short runs. If you mainly walk and want a fluid roll-through, also consider the Cloudtilt, which has no Speedboard.

How does the On Cloudmonster fit?

The On Cloudmonster fits true to size; On itself describes the fit as snug. Your normal size therefore gives a close, secure fit around the midfoot.
