The top three: ASICS and Maison Mihara Yasuhiro

The Gel-Kayano 14 has been the strongest model from ASICS for months. The 2008 design combines open mesh with metallic overlays and visible GEL cushioning in the heel, and the White Graphite Grey is its most neutral version: white, silver and grey, with no accent colour. According to Woovin data (September 2026), this pair was bought over 50 percent more often than in August. The Cream Sweet Pink, number two in August, moves down one place and remains the most popular colourful option. For more background, read our in-depth look at the Gel-Kayano 14 White Graphite Grey.

The biggest climber is the Peterson by Maison Mihara Yasuhiro. The black canvas upper is kept deliberately simple, so that all attention goes to the OG Sole: the wavy sole, originally sculpted by hand in clay, that makes the brand recognisable. In August the Peterson OG Sole Black was still in sixth place. The Hank OG Sole Black, with the same sole and a rounder toe, is a new entry at number six. If the brand is new to you, start with our guide to Maison Mihara sneakers.

Places four to seven: earth tones and a slide

The 9060 Mushroom by New Balance was released in 2023 and is still a fixture three years later. The brown and beige suede and mesh suit the season, and the wide, layered sole gives the model a silhouette of its own. In fifth place is the Mind 001 Light Smoke Grey by Nike, a slip-on with a sole made of individual nodes intended to stimulate the underside of the foot. How that works is explained in our article on the Nike Mind 001. The Gel-NYC Mineral pink closes the list: a fully beige version of the model that brings together elements from several ASICS running shoes.

The wildcard: Saucony ProGrid Omni 9 OG White Brown

Nobody saw it coming, but the Saucony ProGrid Omni 9 OG White Brown finished in eighth place. The ProGrid Omni 9 is a stability runner from the 2000s that Saucony has reissued, with a white mesh base and brown overlays. The pair was released in March 2026 and is available from € 163. We described how the brand is gaining ground in The Rise of Saucony.

What changed compared with August?

The list became noticeably broader in September: in August the entire top five belonged to ASICS, while September has five brands in the top eight. According to Woovin data (August and September 2026), the Gel-Kayano 14 White Graphite Grey kept first place, while the Peterson OG Sole Black went from sixth to second. Colours are shifting with the season. Black canvas, mushroom, brown and beige are replacing the light summer colours, and only the Cream Sweet Pink holds its ground as an outspoken colour. Compare it yourself with the top five of this summer.

Sizing and fit: which size should you choose?

Fit differs considerably per model, and that shows in the reasons why pairs are sent back. According to Woovin return data (April to September 2026), more than 80 percent of size-related returns for the Gel-Kayano and the Gel-NYC concern a shoe that was too small. Going half a size up is the safe choice there. For the Peterson and the Hank the picture is reversed: around 70 percent of size returns concern a shoe that was too large, so if you are between two sizes, the smaller one is the better pick. The Nike Mind 001 runs small most clearly, and the 9060 sits closest to true to size. For the Saucony the data set is still limited, although it points cautiously towards small.

Detailed sizing advice is available in the size guide for the ASICS Gel-NYC and Kayano 14 and in the size guide for the New Balance 9060. When in doubt, also check the size charts from ASICS and Saucony themselves.

Our verdict

The most notable development in September is not that ASICS is on top, but that Maison Mihara Yasuhiro comes so close. Two black canvas models in the top six show that the community reaches less for technical runners in autumn and more for a shoe with a distinct design of its own. We expect the Peterson to compete for first place again in October. Our recommendation if you are choosing now: the Gel-Kayano 14 White Graphite Grey remains the safest choice for daily wear, and the Peterson OG Sole Black is the more interesting choice if you are looking for something different.

Conclusion

September 2026 confirms the position of the Gel-Kayano 14 while making room for new names. Maison Mihara Yasuhiro is the biggest climber, New Balance and Nike hold their ground with one model each, and Saucony provides the surprise. Pay particular attention to sizing when you order: half a size up for ASICS, rather smaller for Maison Mihara Yasuhiro. All pairs in this recap are available on Woovin.
